Kit Preview : 1/76 MMS Zi3 76.2mm Divisional Field Gun

About the manufacturer
MMS is the leading 1/76 white metal model brand. The quality of casting and level of detail are comparable to traditional plastic kits, albeit without etched metal detailing. Smaller details such as mirrors are often omitted , and the running gear of tracked vehicles is usually a simplified one piece casting where the guide teeth are backed by a solid metal strengthening strip.
Due to the tight packaging in unprotected plastic bags, parts often come bent or one might say, with pre-built battle damage. Care must be taken to straighten things out lest parts be broken. Most MMS models I have seen are accurate, the only exception being the Shermans which have too short tracks, too much ground clearance and a too short transmission cover.

About the vehicle
The Zis 3 76.2 divisional field gun was cheaper, lighter and easier to produce than its predecessor, the F-22USV gun. It entered service in late 1941. it was light enough to be towed by a Dodge 3/4 ton truck. Contrary to western doctrine where the two function were served by different pieces, it was used as a combination field and anti-tank gun.

About the kit
The kit is part of the growing range of MMS artillery pieces. I tend to be partial towards white metal guns because I feel I can straighten the gun if necessary, something that is more difficult with resin. The problem is that you have to straighten out pretty much every long part in the kit.

Overall a very nice kit. Now where can I find a crew?
