Kit Preview : 1/76 Ostmodels Renault R40 Light Tank

About the manufacturer
Ostmodels in Tasmania has an extensive range of 1/76 vehicles overlooked by mainstream manufacturers. There is a catalog online at Henk of Holland's web site (Henk crafted several masters for Ostmodels).

About the vehicle
The R40 was a evolution of the R35 light tank. Its main distinguighing feature was an improved, more reliable suspension system. Tactical upgrades were the addition of a radio set and a longer, better gun.

About the kit

This is an assembled kit acquired on Ebay. I think it is from Ostmodels but it is not a certainty. What is really striking is the ground clearance, giving the tank a really bizarre appearance. The suspensions must be too high but I could not find any scale drawings to verify it. The body is too shallow compared to the Cromwell R35 so the underside needs to be built up with card. This won't change the overall height which is excessive. Online specs for the R40 are identical to those of the R35 so there is something amiss. The side by side pictures othe R35 and R40 illustrate the problem.
