Kit Preview : 1/76 Ostmodels Semovente M40 75/18

About the manufacturer
Ostmodels in Tasmania has an extensive range of 1/76 vehicles overlooked by mainstream manufacturers. I don't know if Ankef Fuglsang, the owner is still active at eh moment of writing (12/07). There is a catalog online at Henk of Holland's web site (Henk crafted several masters for Ostmodels).

About the kit

Past the initial "oh my god" impression, the kit is actually quite good. If you look past the flash, the parts are actually very well detailed, straight lines straight, rivets aligned, etc. The kit is interesting in that it is a resin kit with the parts breakdown of a plastic kit, where most resin kits are moving towards a much smaller count of parts. The track is essentially link and length. You get 6 lengths of straight track to play with. Arm yourself with a fresh load of patience, a sharp knife and something you can throw to vent off the frustration. I cannot judge the fit until I start the model but I'll be sure to post my comments. I hope it works out because I would really like to get their Somua, the only 1/76 model on the market. The lack of instructions is a puzzler. I feel it is more useful to have a brief explanation of where the many parts go than a "brief history of the vehicle".
